How to get land from a share

A khatian often lists the whole plot's land together, with each owner's share beside their name — such as 3/16 or 0.1875. To know exactly how much land is yours, multiply the total by the share. This tool works both ways: from share to land, or from land received to share.

How to use it

  1. At the top, choose “I know the share” or “I know the land received”.
  2. Enter the total land and unit — the plot's total area written in the khatian.
  3. Enter the share or the land you received and press “Calculate”.

An example

The plot totals 66 decimals and your share is 3/16. Your land = 66 × 3 ÷ 16 = 12.375 decimals. The other way round, receiving 12.375 decimals out of 66 means your share is 18.75%, that is 3/16.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Entering your own land as the total: put the whole plot's area in “Total land”, not your part.
  • A share within a share: in inheritance your part is often inside your father's share. First find your father's land, then take that as the total and find your part.

FAQ

Hissa is a person's ownership share in the total land. In the khatian it is written as a fraction — e.g. 1/8 or 3/16 — while older records may write it in ana-ganda-kora.

In a faraid calculation each heir's share comes out as a fraction — e.g. a wife's 1/8. Enter that fraction in the share box and the total land above. To divide among the whole family at once, use the faraid calculator.

Yes. In the old system the whole property is counted as 16 ana. So 8 ana means half and 4 ana means one quarter. Your share is also shown in ana-ganda below the result.

It is for your own understanding. For deeds, mutation (namjari) or partition deeds, the actual share in the khatian and a licensed surveyor's measurement are final.
