Plot-wise total land

Total land across plots: when and how

A person's land is often spread over several plots (dag) — the khatian or the deed schedule lists each plot's area separately. To know how much land there is in total, those areas have to be added up. This tool adds the area of every plot and shows the total in decimal, katha, bigha and acre at once.

How to use it

1. Choose the land unit from the list above — the unit used in your papers.
2. In each row, enter the plot number (optional) and the land area of that plot.
3. For more plots, press “Add another plot” to add a row, then press “Get total”.

An example

Suppose there is land in three plots — 12.5, 7.25 and 10 decimals. The total is 29.75 decimals, which is about 18 katha or 0.9 bigha. Here 1 decimal = 435.6 sq ft, 1 katha = 720 sq ft and 1 bigha = 20 katha.

Mistakes to avoid

• Don't add shares: Only the full area of each plot is added here. If your share in a plot is 1/4 or 1/2, use the Khatian share tool.
• Match the units: Enter every plot in the same unit. If some are in katha and others in decimals, first bring them to one unit with the unit converter.
• Local measures: In some regions the local size of a katha or bigha differs. For deeds, the actual area in the khatian and a surveyor's measurement are final.
